Game Design & Development: 

Game development company of large budget size having their own infrastructure normally maintains their payroll employees to get quality of game product to avail their smooth and good success. Although these companies believe in establishing their office structure in a small office cells or cabins for completion of their multi-disciplinary assignments, Auditorium for periodic meeting or conference to update running task with share of experience and views, labs for game testing to get their steady game product quality. Obviously, video game design & development is a team work and output of which is for entertainment and fun with money-earning.

Game Design and Development

Game design and game development both are isolated task but simultaneously provides inter-related game entity based on digital technology in video game industry some times called gaming industry.

Game producer initially fantasize a complete game product then shape and reshape visually in their thoughts to get good look & feel of the product. Producer conducts periodic meetings with their game architects, software developers, engineers, technical experts, team managers and shares views on project in conference hall or auditorium to get updated task and performance of their assignments with time management and gets feedback & suggestions of their experts. If suggestions are precious then producer tries to apply in the task concerned.
 
Game producer may also take any type of services of freelancers, if required and found economically suitable to the company at any stage but the case may be exceptional.

Sometimes, game producer, if finds economically suitable to the company, may negotiate for the purchase of any pre-developed game project (incomplete due to lack of funds whatsoever) with all rights, ownership and legal documents from indie game developers. Technical team may reshape, beautify and complete project with good look & feel to publish the game product .

The complete assignment may be classified in one part as game design and another as a game development.

1.    Game Design: 

The game design task is a primary responsibility to establish natural convey by scenes from gesture to emotion without word or dialogues. The game design document abbreviated as GDD should necessarily be prepared which is useful guide to all the team members and next research & development work on the game project. This document is more precious during negotiations with the investors and at the time when game product requires license to publish. The game design document basically known as a technical specifications is a descriptive document called a anatomy of the game product more similar to the screenplay of the film making profession. This document has detailed collaborative information and useful tools required by cohesive working team during design and development work.

The game design document necessarily requires time to time changes and updates to reach up to final structure of the game product. Therefore, this document should have plentiful and enriched information as following under -

(I).    General Information:
 
This has brief description about the title of the game. Mission and Vision of the game product, List of authors similar as everyone working on the task. The list of reviewers to get feedback. Overview is a high level summary useful to every team member working on the project.

(II).    Descriptive Information:
 
This has context, basic concept, list of characters, sketches, background story, objective, controls, game play, single or multi-players, implementation of A.I., goals, descriptive scenes, drawing, illustrations, technical architecture & problem solving tools etc.

(III).    Miscellaneous Information:
 
This has on-screen interface with attractive look & feel to the users, all menu in detail, graphics detail as general style or multiple graphics modes, compatibility of sound effects, music, legal documents, license to publish the game product, profile of digital marketing & advertising etc.

After game design document is ready, next work is for storyboard artist. The mission and goal of the storyboards expert artists should be very clear in communication of the strong story through visuals.

The complete assignment may be bifurcated into imaginary visual thoughts, elements, characters, scripting, sketching, concept art, prototyping, 2D design, 2D animation, 3D design3D animation, modelling, sculpting, texturing, audio, voice characters and game level designing to get ready task for the next game programming assignment.

Game design softwares are used to create natural elements and characters of the prototype. Some of these softwares are Sketchbook, Illustrator, Photoshop, After effect, 3Ds Max, 3D Maya, zbrush,  Blender 3D, Audacity, Audition, Unity3D with C#, Unreal Engine with C++, Game Maker Studio with GML and Visual Studio.

2.    Game Development: 

The game development task is a broad skill of coding of every part which is mutually integrated to avail final decision of the game product. Game producer monitors project regularly. The working team is responsible to touch from micro to macro points to create natural structure with impressive look & feel to the viewers & gamers to adhere with the game product. Software developers also known as programmers and recently coders with working technical team & engineers develop the live game with maximum use of C++, C# computer languages, HTML5 markup language and CSS cascading style sheets language. Sometimes, someone may like Python computer language additionally but do less use thereof. This game undergoes again and again  through testing lab. People being technically sound and gamers play with the game to collect observations, faults, problems, suggestion and feedback which are recorded and forwarded to the tech lead team for implementation thereof. Some required necessary formalities are completed as license, legal documentation, negotiation with parties, digital marketing and advertising, thereafter game product is found accomplished to publish.
